Back to School 2020-2021

KVA Families,

We are excited to welcome you back on Wednesday, August 19th for a half day of school.  We have been preparing all summer so that we can reopen safely and give our students the best education possible.  We have protocols in place that must be strictly adhered to so that we can learn in-person.  In addition to the details below, our Reopening Plan and School Closure Decision Matrix are available below for you to read through the protocols again.

The main things to think about for the first few days of school are as follows:  (You can read more details in the reopening plan.)

  • Check your child’s temperature and do a health check before leaving the house.

  • Drop your child off at the designated place provided.  There will be a staff member there to greet your child and do the health check.  Students must wear a mask to enter the building.

  • Each child needs to bring:  a refillable water bottle, a mask to wear and a mask to leave at school, a fully charged device (laptop or iPad preferred), a snack, and lunch (after the first half day).  We will offer a pre-ordered lunch as soon as we get that organized.  Be prepared to send lunch with your child at least through August 28th.  No outside lunch deliveries will be allowed.  All students will be on campus for lunch.

  • Students will limit personal items including book bags.  Hard plastic device cases, pencil cases, and lunch boxes that can be sprayed with cleaner and wiped down are allowed.

  • 5th-9th grades will all have PE first quarter and will change clothes in the bathrooms that they will be using during the day.  Please put clothes in a bag that can be wiped or sprayed.  They can leave them at school for the week.

  • We will provide hand sanitizer and have extra masks on hand.

  • Please pick up your child at the designated locations and staggered times.  Please come as close to the time as possible so that parents are able drive up to the building.

  • We will not have our traditional “Back to school Night”, but will instead set up Zoom sessions and/or post videos for you to watch.  This will allow you to see the classrooms, have the teacher(s) explain our procedures in detail, and for you to have a chance to ask questions.  If you are not familiar with Zoom, it is very easy to use.  Go ahead and download it on your device.  You can use a phone, tablet, or computer.  I will email times and a link with pass codes to enter each Zoom session.  When scheduling, we have taken into account siblings so that parents can join each Zoom for each child.  All sessions will be on Monday, August 17th, 2020.

  • Our remote learning option is for students with health concerns, and most classes will be conducted via live Zoom sessions during each class time.  This will allow teachers to take attendance and students to ask questions and hear information first hand.  If you need this option, please let me know as soon as possible.

Be sure to review the Reopening Plan, School Closure Decision Matrix, and Student Arrival & Dismissal Schedule available in the Resources Section.

Thank you for your support and flexibility.
