History Tour to Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton, NC
KVA 11th grade College Prep and Honors classes visited the Fairview Cemetery in Warrenton, NC on May 2, 2019. The visit was inspired by a study of SPOON RIVER ANTHOLOGY by Masters, and the viewing of OUR TOWN by Wilder.
Students noted surnames representative of the area, unique tombstones, historical markers, including a connection to our 11th President, James K. Polk, and other points of interest. Our favorite grave was of a beloved wife planted in lily of the valley. Paper and crayons were taken to attempt rubbings, which turned out nicely.
The trip ended with lunch at Robinson’s Ferry in downtown Warrenton where everyone cooled off and enjoyed a meal.
