Back to School - Fall 2022

Summer is quickly coming to an end— definitely a bittersweet thought, as I doubt any of us are truly ready for it to be over. But with that being said, we are so excited to have the kids back on campus, and welcome new families to KVA. If you have been by campus at all this summer, maybe picking up a book, dropping off a summer assignment, registering for classes or attending practice/open gyms, you may have noticed, a lot of exciting things have been happening at KVA in just a short period of time— deep cleanings, renovations, and adding to the KVA family with new staff and students!

So a few things to mention before our first day back

  • Monday, August 15th at 6:00 pm is Back to School Night for parents and students. Ms. Cook, Head of School, will welcome current and new families to KVA in the big gym and then dismiss teachers to their rooms to welcome students and parents to discuss classroom expectations and management. Middle and High School families will begin in homeroom and follow the student's schedule of classes.

  • Supply List and Summer Reading assignments are posted under the “Resources" tab. ***(We always appreciate each family donating a box of copy paper, if possible. These can be dropped off in the teachers classroom or either lower or upper school lobbies. Some families have even had them delivered directly to the school to save on lifting. Thanks in advance to all who donate!!!)

  • First Day of School - Wednesday, August 17th 8:00am. This will be a staggered noon dismissal.

  • Friday, August 19th, from 3:00pm-6:00pm we will host the Back to School Bash Social to welcome new and returning students/families. There will not be a charge for student arm bands this year, as we hope that all students will stay immediately after school and have fun!!! The PTA will be sponsoring the event. We will have face painting, inflatables, games, raffles, music, a silent auction and dinner available for purchase from Skipper’s in the cafeteria. (***If you have any items you would like to donate to the silent auction, please bring them with you next week and deliver to the Lower School office. We are looking for gifts of all kinds, gift cards, or weekend get aways if you have a vacation home. Ask around if you know of someone or a business that you think would like to support us.)

  • Cafeteria orders: Students may bring lunch from home or order from our website under the “Cafeteria" tab.

    • Order by Sunday night the week before each lunch week. For example, for the week of Aug. 29th, order by Sunday, August 21st.

    • *For our first week of school, Thurs. August 18th (Taco Salad) and Fri. August 19th (Chic-fil-A sandwich), order by Wednesday, August 10th.

    • August Menu and prices are posted under the "Cafeteria” tab.

  • Booster Club- get involved and join to support our athletes! Fall sports practices have begun and the first home games are Aug. 18th versus Wake Prep.

    • Booster Club Membership/Sponsorship Forms are found on website under “Athletics” tab.

    • You’re invited to the next meeting October 3rd, 6:00pm in the Big Gym Mezzanine.

  • Traffic Pattern- Outside two lanes in front lot are park and pickup for lower and middle/upper school students. The middle lane is for drive through only. Please pull into one of the two outer lanes to sit and wait for students at dismissal. Middle and High School students will start line up at middle high school building end doors. Lower students will start lineup around lower school building end doors. Lower teachers will bring your students to the car and once you have your student, pull out and exit through the middle lane. Middle and High school students will walk to the cars themselves, so please drive slowly as you exit the lot. Student drivers park in lower lot near tennis courts and enter buildings through the side high school doors. Daycare students enter by the cafeteria and circle around and exit through the front drive through lane. Please do not exit the school through the “Entrance” as this is a hazard and causes traffic congestion.

  • "Support KVA” tab Opportunities:

    • Marquee Messages- Design a "message of the day" to be posted out front on the Marquee.

    • Library Birthday Club- Fill the library shelves and surprise someone with a book donation in their honor.

    • Spartans Store- Year-round store to purchase Spartan apparel, gear and accessories. *At other times, special apparel will be offered for sale through PTA and clubs. We will have a special sale to start the year and this will be distributed at open house.

    • PTA Charleston Wrap Fundraiser- Aug. 26th - Sept. 9th, Catalog and online sales. *Catalogs will come home with students prior to the 26th.

  • Students arriving late/absent/dismissing early: Please email/text teacher or Nurse Stacey at scottrell@kerrvance.com or 252-432-4102 or call either office at 252-492-0018. (*Especially student drivers- we will call if we are unaware they will be late/absent soon after school begins if they are not in 1st period).

  • K5, 7th, and 12th graders have immunization requirements with the state. Please ensure we have an updated copy of their immunization records if they are in these grade/age levels. Families have a grace period of 30 days to obtain necessary immunizations before not being able to attend school. Please submit these to Nurse Stacey or make her aware if you have a waiver or appointment to obtain these. scottrell@kerrvance.com. New students and daycare students will have these submitted with registration/records request from previous school.

If you have any questions or concerns please reach out to us.

We are excited for the new school year…. and enjoy your last days of summer!!!!
