There are many summer opportunities available to our students. I will continually post the opportunities as I receive them in my office. Some of the program dates have not been updated.
Girls Who Code Campus program is a two-week immersion program for high school girls to learn computer science fundamentals, gain exposure to tech jobs and join a supportive sisterhood of tens of thousands of girls who code across the US! Girls Who Code Campus programs offer:
● Condensed Learning for Busy Summer Schedules: Campus programs are immersion courses that use project-based learning to equip and inspire your daughter with the confidence and skills necessary to pursue computer science; condensed into a two-week time frame to accommodate your summer plans.
● Research-based Curriculum: The introductory coding curriculum is centered on Girls Who Code's Core4 computer science skills, career exposure and community building.
● Trained Educators: Girls Who Code hires and trains Technology Instructors and Teaching Assistants to facilitate the program on campus at a 8:1 student to teacher ratio.
● Results: Girls Who Code is a nationally respected brand with tens of thousands of alumni across all 50 states! Our alumni are attending the top Computer Science universities in the U.S. and are getting jobs from our 80+ corporate partners.
● Fun and Friendships: Your daughter will learn to code alongside 25 other girls and will join an alumni network of tens of thousands of girls across the country who are using computer science to solve problems they care about.

The College of Natural Resources (CNR) Environmental Exploration Day is a 1-day event designed for high school sophomores and juniors interested in discovering natural resources majors that range from Fisheries, Wildlife and Conservation Biology to Sustainable Materials and Technology.

NC State Engineering Summer Programs

Experience America:
Our Summer programs were developed with the University of Washington (UW) in Seattle, Washington, as well as The Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, California.
Entrepreneurship (UW): Instructed by world-renowned professors from University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, this program helps students learn how to start a successful business and visit with local startups.
Game Experience (UW): This program introduces students to the video game development industry in Seattle, teaching them elements of design, animation, and how to start their own video game companies.
Fashion (FIDM): This program is for students who want to dive into LA’s vibrant fashion and design industry and learn how to take their design ideas from concept to consumer.
RYLA: Rotary Youth Leadership Award: High School Juniors residing in Vance County. Applications are due in the Fall.

Boy's State: Tar Heel Boys' State is a workshop focused on North Carolina State government and politics and is hosted by Catawba College. Please see Mrs. Rogers for an application to be filed by March 1, 2020.
HOBY Advanced Leadership Academy: HOBY’s Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) is a program initially launched in 2013 for any high school junior or senior (ages 16-18 at the time of the program) from the U.S, Canada, and Mexico. Students are not required to have participated in other HOBY programming to be eligible to participate in the ALA. Click here for more information and application process.

Lens at Wake Forest University
Lens is a three-week summer program. The academic these is Confronting the Challenges of Global Sustainability. Summer Ventures:
This program is administered by the School of Science and Math. It is a four-week rigorous academic summer program. Applications are available and must be completed online. VGCC Science Camp
VGCC is hosting a new science camp for students in 6-8th grades. This is a great opportunity to explore the world of science. If interested, please see the VGCC Science Camp 2019 website for dates and details.
North Carolina Scholastic Media Association
Students interested in communications need to check out this camp. NCSMA is hosting an opportunity to teach students how to work in and with various aspects of media/communications. Please contact the ncsma@unc.edu if you are interested.

The Shelton Challenge
This is a week-long summer camp designed to help motivate your child to lead others to make a difference in their family and or community. It’s for rising 9th-12th grade students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher. JSA Summer School
The Junior Statesmen Summer School is an exciting and valuable opportunity for student leaders. This opportunity is designed for rising 9th-11th-grade students. Free Enterprise Leadership Challenge
This year’s conference will be held at Wingate University. This is a opportunity to spend 5 days learning about free market economics. Students receive hands-on instruction to create business and marketing plans. Please go to http://felcexperience.org/.
